the Red Cliffs, Trangmar Mustang, Nepal

camp at Trangmar, Mustang
Trangmar Mustang, Nepal

The village of Trangmar comes near the end of the Mustang trek. The beauty of this place comes as a refreshing surprise. After trekking through dry uplands, a region of space and wide vistas, you arrive quite suddenly at a prominent gap in trail. Below is a land of fertility and green lushness; a grassy valley strewn with wildflowers and ripening barley.
The village snuggles under these red-streaked cliffs. Like so many Tibetan geographic names, the word describes the scene. Trangmar means 'cliff red'.
