In this photo the trekkers are heading home. The highland-terraces of Mustang lie behind them. To their right are the braided streams of the Kali Gandaki. (black big-river) At this point about a kilometre wide. In July the river is quite low, difficult to cross on foot but easy on horseback. During our Mustang trek we cross the Kali Gandaki twice, each time on a bridge.
The side streams which we ford are much less demanding than attempting this major river.
