Mt Ganesh on the Nepal-Tibet border: from the North,
above Darzhong
Ganesh stands on the Nepal-Tibet border. Our Manaslu trek passes to the north of the mountain into the trans-Himalayan valley of Tsum. This photo is taken in a region of dense rhododendron forest where the trees are so high they hang across the track. It is one of many stunning mountain views that reveal themselves on this trek.
Lord Ganesh is the Hindu god of good fortune, one of the most loved and revered of all Hindu deities. As a result of an unfortunate encounter with his father, he has the head of an elephant. When viewed from Kathmandu one ridge of the mountain resembles the trunk of an elephant, hence its name.
