the Endless knot: Mustang region

Indian Siddha, Luri Gompa, Mustang
Mustang region almost anywhere!

I am not sure which village contains this door. It depicts 'the endless knot', one of the eight auspicious symbols which decorate chortens, books and items of daily use throughout the Tibetan region.

The Glorious Endless Knot overlaps without beginning or end and symbolises the Buddha's endless wisdom and compassion. The intertwining of the lines reminds us all things are inter-related and only exist as part of a web of cause and effect. Without beginning or end, it expresses both motion and rest and the infinite nature of Buddha dharma.

This one is broken so I guess it reflects impermanence as well!

On our trek to Mustang in July 2003 we camp near many villages and in some houses.
