a 'card' and letter

a Sherpa's letter and card

Those of you lucky enough to trek in Nepal or Tibet with Sherpa people will know the depths of friendship which develop between trekkers and the Sherpas assigned to care for them. For most of us it is rare to experience unconditional acceptance from any other than our closest family. Many Sherpas retain this quality, which comes unadorned - and in this example - with great charm. It probably comes as no surprise that the Sherpas from less sophisticated and more remote regions express a charmingly naive quality most directly.

Tashi comes from Tsum - a wondrously remote and beautiful region - north of the main Himalayan chain. On a trek in Tibet in 2002 he became quite sick and was given money for medical care when he returned to Kathmandu. This letter and his personally-crafted card is a thank-you.

On our treks in Nepal and Tibet we try to take with us Sherpas who best reflect many of the qualities which have made their culture famous. If you would like to experience that choice - and hopefully - the great aspects of Sherpadom, please consider joining us. Despite a western tendency to scantify them, Sherpas and Tibetans remain refreshingly human - with all the positives and negatives that involves.

On our trek to Mustang in July 2003 we shall certainly travel with Sherpas and Tashi should be along... fully cured!
