Dorje the cook
Tsum Dorje, Manaslu region, Nepal
As his name implies, Dorje comes from Tsum, the remote valley behind Ganesh Himal in the Manaslu region. Dorje is a very common name for Sherpa or Tibetan people. Adding a location component to his name makes it easier to identify people. Not that Dorje needs much assistance with his identity!
In 1992 when we made took our first trek around Manaslu Dorje was a sixteen year-old who joined the group. Initially a 'cook-boy' he has progressed to become a very competent cook. Under Diane's watchful eye he has been trained to maintain a high standard of personal and kitchen hygiene. As a result, it is uncommon for our groups to have diarrhoea problems once we have started on trek.
If you come trekking with us Around Manaslu in 2004 you will be able to meet Dorje and try delicious pumpkin for yourself.
