Hand painting

hand painting - henna, South India
a young girl is decorated with henna

This is one of India's most lovely traditions. Sometimes henna dye is applied with a stencil. The true artist are those practitioners who apply the henna paste directly. The tacky dark brown paste is left in situ for up to an hour. When it is removed the skin is stained a reddish brown for about a month.

It's a cheap and charming decoration.
