Bundled saris at Karaikuti
There are thousands of sari shops in India. A clue to the whereabouts of this one, are the turned-teak pillars in the background. These are characteristic of the Chettinad region of southern Tamil Nadu.
The bundled saris seen here are not from this district, but from Kanchipuram, several hundred kilometres to the north. Unpacking the saris to have them displayed is a great part of shopping for these gorgeous textiles.
