'Chinese' dip-nets, South India
previous |
Kochi - Cochin
near Fort Cochin
For great photographic opportunities- and a whole lot else beside - there are spaces on our South India tour for 2007. (The 06 tour MAY have some spaces... please enquire). If you are interested, check the page:Lining the large harbour of Kochi, are scores of these 'Chinese' nets. Centuries ago this tradition of fishing was brought to south India and avidly adopted by the locals. The huge nets are cantilevered, so that lowering and raising them is a practical proposition for four or five men.
This sunset view, has the modern fishing fleet returning home and the sun descending in the west into the Arabian sea. It is tre-photogenic!
