Upper Mustang, Nepal

One day at Tangye there was a weddding. Guests arrived from adjacent villages, all dressed in their traditional costumes. Looking at this woman's dress and jewellery, any Loba (citizen of Upper Mustang), would know her village. I know only that what she wears is a stunning celebration of life!

The large silver buckle and applique shawl are seen less frequently now compared to even ten years ago. They are mostly worn on ceremonial occasions. Her silver, turquoise, seed pearls and coral have been prized by Tibetan women up to current times and were major trade items throughout the Himalaya and Tibet.
