Across the gorge

Gyakar village across the gorge
The mules are tracking around the corner before dropping down to the main Kali Gandaki valley a thousand metres below, and another two hours walk.
This gorge was created by a small side river draining into the Kali. The great Tethys Sea was here before the mountains. As India ground into the Asian land mass some 60 million years ago, the Himalaya was thrown up and rivers such as this created these amazing gorges.
There is a trail up the cliff wall to the village of Gyakar but it is not obvious in this photo. I suspect that very few foreigners made the effort to get across this gorge as it would add another three hours to an already long day.
We walk this trail on the final three days of our Mustang trek. You could join us.
